How to print labels that fit

Measure one label window on your patch panel with a ruler, in millimeters, and enter the width and height. The sheet is drawn at that exact size. In the print dialog, choose a scale of 100% (or "Actual size"), because many browsers shrink a page to fit by default.

Labels print in landscape at their true size, so a long row wraps onto more rows to fit the paper, while the SVG and PNG keep your own layout. Cut along the lines.

Number the ports the way your cabling will be numbered: the prefix is printed in front of each number, so a prefix of "A" gives A1, A2 and so on, and a second panel can start from A25. Short names print larger and read better from across the room.

Questions about this tool

How do I print labels at the right size?

Measure the width and height of one label window on your patch panel in millimeters and enter them. Then use Print and choose "Actual size" or 100% scale in the print dialog, so the browser does not shrink the page to fit.

What should I write on a patch panel label?

Use the same name at both ends of the cable and keep it short: a room and a number, like "Office 2", or what is plugged in, like "Hall AP". The port number is printed for you.

How long can a label be?

Up to 24 characters, wrapped onto two lines. Anything longer is cut, so shorter names print larger and read better.

Can I save a sheet to print again later?

Signed-in members can save a sheet and reopen it from the same page. Anyone can bookmark the link, because the labels are kept in the address.

Which format should I download?

Print directly from the browser for the exact size. Use SVG to edit the sheet in a design tool or send it to a label printer, and PNG for a quick picture to paste into a post.
